Nutrition is the science of food and how the body uses it. Nutrition includes all the intrinsic elements of foodstuff, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. The process of nourishing, particularly the process by which a human being assimilates food and uses it for growth, building and replacement of tissues is a 3-phase process. First, food or drink is ingested. Secondly, the body digest and breaks down the food or drink into nutrients. Third, the nutrients are assimilated through the bloodstream to various parts of the body where they are used to sustain life. Consuming a variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, grains and dairy products is important to give the body the nutrients required to grow and maintain optimum healthy.
