According to statistics, a vast majority of the population has a desire to reduce their body fat composition. Understanding the principles for fueling and energy expenditure of the body will help formulate a plan for achieving this seemly lofty goal. The human body has basic physiological processes that must be implemented to achieve weight loss. In order to lose weight calorie expenditure must exceed calorie intake. There are two basic ways this can be accomplished: 1) calorie consumption is less than the daily calorie expenditure for basal metabolic rate (BMR), diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) and energy cost of physical activity, and/or 2) engaging in a physical activity program aimed at expending additional calories above expenditure of #1. More calories must be burned than consumed to lose weight.
